Is Crime Still a Major Concern for Shreveport Residents?
SHREVEPORT, LA - Crime numbers in Shreveport have fallen from last year's numbers, but many residents are still troubled by crime in neighborhoods across the city.
There have been 39 murders in the city so far this year and 42 murders in Caddo Parish.
The City Council's Public Safety Committee will be meeting on Tuesday to talk about several items that impact crime and safety in our neighborhoods.
The public is welcome to attend this meeting to hear updates on several items. This meeting will be held at Government Plaza at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Chairman Gary Brooks wants to address several key items:
a.) Continuous Shootings in the City
b.) Update: Operational Readiness
c.) Status of Substations and Headquarters
d.) Discussion: Marked Police Units vs Unmarked Units
e.) Discussion: Cameras, Real Time Crime Center, and Drones
f.) Fire Department Staffing and Vacancies; Resolution to Fix Problem
The public will also have a chance to address the panel.
We also expect leaders from the police and fire departments to attend the meeting to give an update on public safety.
