Shreveport Police Arrest Man for Battery and Gun Charges
Earlier this week, Shreveport Police responded to the Wellington Square Apartments, on Jewella Avenue, following reports of a violent disturbance.
When SPD Officers arrived at the scene, they learned that Brodrick Thomas allegedly strangled the victim and later pulled a gun, threatening the victim during an argument over drugs. While officers were interviewing the victim, Thomas was spotted near the scene of the crime. When officers attempted to stop Thomas, he took off running.
After a long foot pursuit and a physical altercation, SPD was able to take Thomas into custody. During the incident, Thomas resisted arrest, and got some minor injuries. He was taken to a local area hospital, treated, and later released.
Shreveport Police K-9 officers responded to assist and were able to locate the firearm that Thomas threw out while fleeing from officers.
Thomas has been charged with:
-One count of Simple Battery
-One count of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm
-Illegal Carrying of Weapons
-Distribution of Narcotics
-Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence
From SPD:
"One Shreveport Police officer sustained minor injuries during the arrest and is expected to make a full recovery. SPD thanks our officers for their bravery as they arrested another violent criminal."
