Shreveport leaders are expected to approve a lease on a property in the Shreve City area to be used as a substation for the east side of the city.

This proposed lease is for one year, but it can be extended, if needed.

What Property Is City Considering Leasing

This deal would give the Mayor of Shreveport the authority to sign a lease for a vacant space in the Shreve City Shopping Center near the Goodwill Store. The exact address is 1273 Shreveport Barksdale Highway.

The ordinance before the City Council says this space would “be used as a Shreveport Police Department substation.”

Police employees are currently being moved out of the headquarters at 1234 Texas Avenue because of poor conditions at that property. The police department has identified properties within the city to lease and utilize for substations. The Shreve City building has 3,000 square feet.

How Much Will the Lease Cost the City of Shreveport

The proposed lease terms are for 12 months at $3,000.00 per month base rent. Other charges could be added on depending on options in the lease. The city is expected to pay about $3500 a month total for the property.

When Would the Lease Begin?

Tenant shall begin to make rent payment on the 1st of the Month following 30 days after the date they have opened for business.

We don't know yet if this would be a permanent police substation for east Shreveport. The city has already opened a substation on Monkhouse Drive and a 2nd one is being built on North Market. A 3rd substation will be built at the park at 70th and St. Vincent.

But there has been a call for a substation in east Shreveport. This Shreve City property could be the answer to that request. The council could take final action on this proposed lease during the Tuesday meeting.
