How’s the Progress on Shreveport’s Police Substations?
Shreveport is moving full steam ahead to get 3 police substations up and going.
The operation on Monkhouse Drive is about 95% complete. Work is also progressing on the North Market Street substation and the bid package is being put together for the east Shreveport station which will be located at the Cedar Grove Park which is located at the corner of West 70th Street and St. Vincent Avenue. The city hopes to open this site by next summer.
The city is using the same design work for each of the substations, so that will save time and money.
How Are the Substations Being Funded?
Voters passed a bond proposition in 2021 to spend $4.5 million for the construction of police substations. The ultimate goal is to have 4 police substations, but the bids have come in at about $1.5 million for each substation, so that would only pay for 3 at this time.
This city has saved money on the North Shreveport substation because the land was donated by the North Shreveport Business Association. Using the Cedar Grove park property will also save money since the city will not have to acquire land for the complex.

How Many Officers Will Work at Substations?
Each substation will house between 60 and 100 officers. Chief Wayne Smith tells KEEL News this will help get the officers closer to the community. He says the goal is to foster more community engagement with residents in the neighborhoods. The Chief says he has already witnessed that interaction during a recent stop by the park in Cedar Grove. He says officers got a chance to play ball with some youngsters in the area and the kids have asked the officers to come back and do it again.
