Bossier City police have arrested a young man in connection with a shooting earlier this week in which he sustain a gunshot wound. Detectives arrested Damario Sheldon Kelly, 19, of Bossier City on a charge of aggravated assault.

Officers were called to Willis-Knighton Bossier Health Center Wednesday night after Kelly showed up there with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg. Kelly was subsequently transferred to LSU Hospital in Shreveport for further treatment.

Bossier City police detectives determined Kelly had been involved in a dispute in the 2100 block of Scott Street earlier that evening in which he exchanged gunfire with a man. Upon his release from the hospital on Thursday Kelly was arrested after the investigation showed that he was the aggressor in the incident and had fired first. Detectives say the other man returned fire as a means of self-defense with one round striking Kelly in the leg.

Kelly was booked into the Bossier City Jail and later transferred to the Bossier Parish Maximum Security Facility.
