The Shreveport Journalism Foundation is offering two $1,000 scholarships for college juniors or seniors -- and the application deadline is quickly approaching. Interested students, who reside at or attend a four-year college in the 10 northwest Louisiana parishes, have until September 1st to apply. Students need to submit an application form signed by their faculty advisor, along with a 250-word essay on "Why I Want to Pursue a Career in Journalism/Public Relations." If a college or university doesn't offer a degree in journalism or public relations, a communications major is acceptable. Applicants must be juniors or seniors in the fall 2011 semester/quarter and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 overall and 3.0 in their major. The scholarships will be presented at the SJF's Annual Meeting and Dinner at Ralph & Kacoo's on October 7th.
