The Shreveport Journalism Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s Kerry Garland and Orland Dodson Memorial Scholarships.  These $1000 scholarships are open to college Juniors and Seniors who are majoring in Journalism, Public Relations, or Mass Communication and who either live or attend school in one of ten northwest Louisiana parishes.  Each applicant was required to have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and a GPA of at least 3.0 in his or her Major.  Applicants also had to submit a 250-word essay on the topic:  “Why I want to pursue a career in [field of study.]  Foundation members then met to review the applications and select the recipients. 

            This year’s recipient of the Kerry Garland Memorial Scholarship is Kelly Belton.  She’s a Senior at Louisiana Tech University, majoring in Journalism and Political Science.  She is also the only person in the history of this scholarship program to receive it two years in a row. 

            The recipient of this year’s Orland Dodson Memorial Scholarship is Naomi Allison.  She’s a Junior at Louisiana Tech University with a double Major in Journalism and Spanish and a Minor in Marketing. 

            Their scholarships will be presented at the Shreveport Journalism Foundation’s annual meeting at 7pm, October 7th, at Ralph and Kacoo’s in Bossier City.
