A heavy police presence is on hand in New Orleans as the statue of Robert E. Lee is removed from Lee Circle. WWL TV reports crews began showing up early this morning to get to work.

The crowd is beginning to grow and officers are doing everything possible to keep the peace.

This will be the 4th and final Confederate monument the City of New Orleans plans to remove, at least for now. There has been a lot of speculation about Andrew Jackson on a horse in Jackson Square in the heart of the French Quarter.

What will happen with the statues that have been removed? New Orleans will take bids from groups that want to host the monuments, but there is a stipulation that they not be displayed on outdoors on public property in New Orleans.
