Today we remember the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese. It happened on December 7, 1941.

President Roosevelt reacted to the deadly attack in this address to the nation:

I have visited the Pearl Harbor museum in Hawaii a few times and it is one of the most somber places I have ever been. You can see tears by many who are visiting the museum.

Here's more information about the surprise attack by the Japanese:

The attack led to an immediate response from the U.S. and ultimately resulted in war with Japan in the Pacific.

On this day, we remember and honor the 2,403 citizens of the United States who were killed in the Japanese attack. Congress designated December 7th as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. The American Flag should be flown at half-staff until sunset to honor those who died as a result of the attack on U.S. Military and naval forces in Hawaii.
