No Legal Sports Betting in Louisiana! Should it Be? [Poll]
If you were betting on sports gambling becoming the next legal avenue for monetary wagers in Louisiana, you can go ahead and tear up your ticket now. Yesterday, the Louisiana Senate Finance Committee struck down a proposal what would have made sports betting legal in the Bayou State with a 6-3 vote. According to NOLA.com, members of the committee did not approve the proposal because they thought it would be too costly to implement, regulate, and collect taxes from a system set up specifically for sports betting.
The legislation as currently written would have placed betting stations at more than 1700 locations throughout the state - including casinos, bars, hotels, truck stops, and basically anyplace video poker is currently allowed.
Don't count it out just yet, there's still a chance that betting on professional games could make it's way to legality at some point in the future - but it's a long-shot. Proponents of the measure say that there is a way to bypass the Senate Finance Committee and move the bill to the Senate floor for a full vote.
