Rock Solid's Shelly McMillan talks about the upcoming opening of city swimming pools and SPAR's search for lifeguards for this summer.

SPAR has outsourced the operation of the city's five pools to McMillan and Rock Solid for a number of years. The SPAR pool's were closed in 2020 because of the Coronavirus outbreak.

"COVID kept us down for a little while, but Rock Sold is back," McMillan says, "Getting back in the groove and impacting kids in our community.

And she emphasizes, with the pools' opening day rapidly approaching, the search for lifeguards is the top priority. "We actually have a lifeguard certification coming up," McMillan says, "Our aquatics manager is certified to certify lifeguards. You have to be 15-yesr-old and know how to swim. The rest, we can take care of.

"We'll train you, teach you how to be a leader, teach you how pools run and then we'll teach you to teach people how to swim," McMillan adds, citing the 15,000 people that Rock Solid has taught to swim for free since the implementation of their program in 2011.

McMillan says anyone interested can contact Rock Solid at 318 470-8904, or via email at rocksoldathletic@gmail.com. She adds that opening date for the city's pools is "around the 10th (of June) and will be open "until school starts."
