The Caddo Sheriff’s Office and Shreveport Fire Department have launched a full investigation into the apparent attempted arson at the Caddo Parish Courthouse last night.  According to Sheriff Steve Prator, an improvised incendiary device commonly referred to as a "Molotov Cocktail" was ignited and thrown against the courthouse door at some point late last night.

The device consists of a glass bottle filled with a flammable substance, and an accelerant-soaked rag stuffed in the top for a makeshift fuse.  Once the rag is lit, the cocktail is thrown and breaks upon impact - releasing the contents and causing the target to go up in flames.

The press release posted on the official Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office website states that the device was discovered early this morning as the courthouse doors were being opened for the days proceedings.  Luckily, it failed to cause a fire.  According to CPSO Courthouse Security, the rag was lit and the bottle broke - but there was no ensuing inferno.

Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance video and combing through evidence in an effort to find the person or persons responsible.  If you saw or perhaps know something pertaining to this crime, please contact Shreveport / Caddo Parish Crimestoppers by clicking here.
