Where Will These Homes Be Built
These homes will only be placed in one specific area in the city. This grant money will be used as part of the expansion of Providence House in Shreveport. It will allow that agency to expand its efforts to help the homeless population in the city. The homes will be located next to Providence House in downtown Shreveport where the current warehouse is located.
What Is the Total Cost
Providence House says the total cost of this modular home development is about $3 million dollars. The rest of the funds will be generated from fund raising efforts by the non-profit agency.

What’s the Background for this Program
Shreveport leaders sent KEEL News this information about the program:
Bloomberg has a program aimed at finding innovative ways to quickly provide temporary housing (up to two years) for homeless populations that could be scaled around the country. In some areas they used shipping containers.
But in Shreveport, shipping containers are not a viable option, so modular homes has been proposed.
Providence House will be responsible for the construction and management of the expansion.
