Several local groups have events planned for Memorial Day. We encourage you to attend one of these events to remember those who gave their lives for our freedom.

Here's a list of several events:

Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery is hosting an observance Monday morning at 8am. It's located on Highway 80 East in Haughton. Retired Lt Colonel Monte Parker from the Air Force is the guest speaker. This event takes place in the Sunrise Amphitheater at Hillcrest which is just east of Harrah's Louisiana Downs. Several military, veterans, heritage and fraternal organizations will lay wreaths in memory of fallen veterans. For more information, call Hillcrest Memorial Park, (318) 949-9415.

The second local Memorial Day observance will be at 11am at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Road, Keithville. The guest speaker will be retired John Mercer, the Department Commander for DAV (Disabled American Veterans). For more information, call the cemetery office at (318) 925-0612.

The Greenwood Cemetery is hosting a special event on Thursday, May 30th It begins at 10am at the cemetery on Stoner. The guest speaker is Lt. Col. Jon Johnson. For more info, call. 502-5185.

Another key event on the day is the Tolling of the Bells Ceremony at 2 p.m. at the Lowe-McFarlane American Legion Post 14, 5315 S. Lakeshore Drive, Shreveport. For more information, call Post 14 at (318) 635-8186.
