A Georgia man accused of stealing over $27,000 while passing through Caddo Parish over Labor Day weekend is now in jail.

26-year-old Deandre Jerome Scott of Decatur, GA was arrested on November 3 in Orlando, Florida, on charges similar to those he faces here.

Scott and a second suspect, 36-year-old Charles Rasean Epps of Clarkston, AL, are accused of fishing personal checks and money orders from night deposit drop boxes at 10 Shreveport apartment complexes between September 1-7. They cashed the documents in Shreveport, Bossier City, and Atlanta, GA. At one of the local credit unions, authorities retained a copy of Scott’s identification when he attempted to cash one of the stolen checks.

In all, 91 local residents were victimized in the scheme which caused losses of $27,421.

Warrants in Caddo Parish charged Scott and Epps with criminal conspiracy, simple burglary, and forgery.

While Scott is being held in Orlando, authorities are still searching for Epps. It is not yet known when Scott will be returned to Caddo Parish to face charges here.
