SHREVEPORT, LA - A bill that would ban products that contain THC is moving forward in Louisiana. THC is the compound found in marijuana that produces a "high". It is now sold in many products including gummies, drinks and even in hemp flour.

But Shreveport Senator Thomas Pressly says the current law makes it too easy for children to get these products and this could be dangerous and lead to more problems.
But critics of the bill say this measure would cost the state money and would also lead to job losses. The owner of a hemp shop in New Orleans is urging other business owners around the state to let lawmakers know this bill is not necessary.

Pressly says he is willing to work on a possible compromise, but he wants to make sure our children are protected.

What Would Change Under this Bill?

Present law (R.S. 3:1481) defines that an "adult-use consumable hemp product" is any consumable hemp product that contains more than 0.5 milligrams of total THC per package.
Proposed law defines that an "adult-use consumable hemp product" is any consumable hemp product that contains no THC per serving or package.
