From a Push-Up Challenge to help for a Livingston Parish school, our Bossier kids will be busy with both serious and fun events Friday, September 9. Here's the list of events, courtesy of Bossier Schools Liaison Sonja Bailes:

Helmet Assembly

Apollo has many students who walk or ride a bike to school and their safety is a priority for us. Last year, P.E. instructor Micheal Puryear began the Apollo Bicycle Clique. This club is to help students be safe when they ride their bikes to school. Apollo rewards students for wearing helmets. Local sponsors will be on site to show their support and possibly reward more students with bike helmets at the assembly.

A ceremony in memory of the victims of 9/11 will take place at 9 a.m. in front of Parkway. It should end at 9:15.

Following that ceremony, the "22 Push-Ups Challenge" will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the main gym to raise awareness about the number of veterans and teens who attempt or commit suicide each day. Bossier School Board members Dennis Bamburg and Eric Newman have accepted the challenge to participate. Media partners are also invited to take part.

Smoothies for Southside

In an effort to raise money for flood-ravaged Southside Elementary in Livingston Parish, the Kingston Cubs will enjoy "Smoothies for Southside." Students and faculty members can pre-order smoothies and families are invited to get in on the fun with their children and enjoy the party for a good cause. A designated portion of each smoothie sale will be designated for Southside Elementary. Kindergarten students and those in grades 2nd and 5th will enjoy their smoothie party at 1 p.m. The party for students in 1st, 3rd and 4th will be at 2 p.m.
