Officials in Bossier and Webster Parishes say Lake Bistineau is open again to recreational boat traffic.

The lake closed Sunday, June 7, after the water levels rose above flood stage. The water remains high, but has begun to recede.

Boaters are urged to motor slowly near camps and structures. Wakes can potentially cause damage to boat houses, piers and other waterfront property until the lake returns to its normal level. Also be careful if you're operating your watercraft on the lake at night. Officials say the possibility of debris in the boating lanes due to the high water and current could present hazards.

Also be careful launching and reloading your boats. Launches on the lake are still under higher-than-usual water and the launch area may not be clearly defined.
