Shreveport Firefighter Hurt Battling Blaze at Jolie Apartments
SHREVEPORT, LA - A blaze at the Jolie Apartments in Shreveport started early this morning.
Shreveport Fire crews responding to the complex just before 5:30 this morning. They found one building at the vacant apartments fully engulfed in flames. The Jolie Apartments are located in the 1000 Block of Quail Creek Road.
The call came in from a passerby who noticed heavy black smoke in the area. Shreveport Fire crews from Station #5 and Station #11 arrived at the burning vacant apartment building at approximately 5:30 AM. Heavy smoke and flames were reported topping out of the vacant structure.
Shreveport Fire had to work through water pressure issues after laying 1,000 + of water supply line from the nearest working fire hydrant. They were able to confine the fire damage to one building of the apartment complex. It is unknown at this time how many units inside the building were on fire. It took the efforts of 16 Shreveport Fire Units – 38 Firefighters, support personnel, and Signal 51 – who placed this fire under control in roughly an hour after arriving on scene.
There were no injuries to any citizens in this incident, but one Shreveport Firefighter was transported with non-life-threatening injuries after debris from the burning roof fell and struck the firefighter. The firefighter was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
This property was under Mayor Tom Arceneaux’s Declaration of State of Public Health and Safety Emergency. But that emergency order expired and the council voted not to extend the emergency declaration.
The buildings do not currently have any utility services and entry by the public is strictly prohibited. Due to the enhanced danger to the safety of the public and first responders, anyone who witnesses suspicious activities at these properties, or any of the city’s vacant apartment complexes, is encouraged to contact local authorities.
