Jindal Signs Tough Cigarette Littering Bill
The next time you think about tossing a cigarette butt out the window of your vehicle, be warned: it could cost you $300 and community service work.
The bill, sponsored by Rep. Patrick Connick (R), re-classifies cigarettes and cigarette butts as litter. Connick explained the motivation behind the bill to the Louisiana Radio Network.
"It may be small, but a cigarette butt is still litter, don't just throw it out and let someone else pick it up, don't trash our state," he said.
The second infraction will cost $700 and 16 hours of community work, and the third time will cost violators $1500, along with the suspension of their driver's license.
