Texas Politician Challenges Use of F-Bomb in Local Films
The Texas Senate panel recently approved a $500-million incentive to boost the local film industry! Senate Bill 22, will put that money into a new Texas Moving Image Industry Incentive Fund every two years until 2035. The bill now awaits approval from the full Senate.
While the bill was championed by Texas natives Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick who signed off on the bill in January, at least one Texas lawmaker is hoping that by making Texas a major film hub, that those films made in the Lone Star state won't contain any profanity. The concern of profanity in movies was brought up by Senator Donna Campbell during the hearing.
California native and total prude, Senator Donna Campbell, says if movies are made in Texas, they shouldn’t be allowed to say “God Dammit” or “Fuck” #txlege

I like how everyone is just kind of side-eying her.
Campbell concluded by saying:
I would just say we are still in the Bible Belt. There's just no values. So maybe that's just my 2 cents, but I think that should be considered by the governor's office.
Apparently, Campbell's views are not new; according to CHRON, when the TMIIP was created in 2007, some Texas republicans have opposed the idea of Hollywood production "corrupting Texas values". Lt. Gov. Patrick has insisted that they are not turning Texas into Hollywood.
However, this does bring up the question: will Texas have the power to censor the projects made, or will it severely limit what projects are approved? Guess we'll have to wait.
