The New Orleans Saints are preparing to open the 2025 NFL season at home this weekend. This will be the debut of new Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore. But he's not going to have his full set of players available for the game against the Arizona Cardinals.

Who Is Going To Miss The Saints Season Opener With Injuries?

While some players may still be ruled out before the game, we know there will be at least two Saints we know will not play. There will be one player on each side of the ball, who are big names for the Saints, that have already been ruled out.

Defensive End Chase Young and Offensive Lineman Trevor Penning have both been ruled out. Putting the Saints at another disadvantage starting the season.

The Saints defense is likely to have to play a lot of snaps this year. The offense is going to be led by a combination of quarterbacks that are winless in NFL starts heading into the year. Seriously, none of the Saints quarterbacks have won an NFL game.

So the Saints are probably going to be having a lot of 3-and-out offensive drives, which is going to create a lot of work for the defense. Having Young out there would really help that Saints defense.

Penning is a former First Round NFL Draft Pick (Saints took him in 2022), who seemed to be settling into a new position on the line this year. Originally he was planned to be a long term Left Tackle, but last year he moved to Right Tackle. This season, Penning is expected to slide inside to a Guard position, and it sounded like that transition was going well.

But now, Penning will be out for Week 1, which is going to put that progression on pause.
