A pretty big Shreveport connection to an Oscar winner. Michael B. Jordon won Best Actor for his role in the film "Sinners." That movie was a big winner on the night, pulling in four Oscars out of a record-breaking 16 nominations.

Michael B. Jordan has ties to Shreveport. This is where his father's family is from. Jordan talked about this connection during a recent interview with The Root when he was talking about the film "Sinners".

“My dad’s side of the family is from Shreveport, Louisiana and my mom’s side of the family is from Hope, Arkansas so having a family history and lineage from the South is something that was always there,” Jordan told The Root on the red carpet for the Critics Choice Association 8th Annual Celebration of Black Cinema and Television.

Jordan also talked about filming this movie in the south. He says that helped him get a better understanding of his family history in the Ark-La-Tex region.

The movie "Sinners" takes place in Clarksdale, Mississippi during the Jim Crow era. Much of the movie was shot at sites across Louisiana.

Several locations were used for this horror flick. Much of the movie was filmed around New Orleans, St. Bernard Parish, and Donaldsonville. The sets recreated 1930s Mississippi. Several critical scenes were filmed on Railroad Avenue in Donaldsonville. The cotton field scenes were filmed at Laurel Valley Plantation in Lafourche Parish.

Jordan beat Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke and Wagner Moura.
