Wonder Oasis Waterpark Closes, But Hope May Still Float
What we hoped would be a grand revival for our town has taken a truly sad turn. For months, we watched with genuine excitement, eager to see Shreveport’s only waterpark return to its former glory.
Wonder Oasis Waterpark held so much promise for our families, but today, that vision has come to an abrupt and somber end.
In a deeply personal announcement, owner Lee Hovis shared that despite pouring every ounce of passion, effort, and financial resource into the project, it simply wasn't enough to keep the gates open. "I have exhausted every effort and dollar within my reach," Hovis stated, marking an immediate end to operations. It is heartbreaking to read the words of someone who gave everything, mentally, physically, and financially, only to see the dream slip away.
While this is a devastating day for local recreation, there is a small silver lining for those who already invested in the park. In a beautiful show of "community over competition," two neighboring parks are stepping up to help Shreveport-Bossier families:
Big Dam Waterpark (Texarkana, AR)
Splash Kingdom Waterparks (Canton & Nacogdoches, TX)
Both parks have committed to honoring any 2026 Wonder Oasis season passes already purchased. Additionally, they are offering exclusive discounts for our local residents. While it’s a drive, it’s a comfort to know our kids won't lose out on their summer fun entirely.
As we look at the empty slides today, the question remains: what happens next? Will another visionary step in to revive this community staple, or is this truly the final splash for the park? For now, we stand with the Hovis family and share in the disappointment of a dream cut short.
