It is a bittersweet day for the local wedding industry and future brides across the Ark-La-Tex. One of the most iconic and architecturally stunning venues in downtown Shreveport has officially announced a major shift in direction.

The Silver Lake Ballroom, a staple of elegance and history, will no longer be booking weddings as it prepares to usher in a new vision for the historic Hunter Building.

As a wedding DJ, I have spent countless evenings within these walls. I’ve watched the space transform from a blank canvas into a floral wonderland, a vintage gala, or a modern chic celebration. Seeing the diverse aesthetics of so many couples come to life against the backdrop of that classic Art Deco charm has been a highlight of my career. There is an undeniable soul to the building, a mix of history and character that is hard to replicate.

Unfortunately, if you had your heart set on saying "I do" under these specific chandeliers and hadn’t already secured your date, it appears the window of opportunity has closed. The venue recently took to social media to share the news of their "New Chapter":

"After more than 20 wonderful years of hosting your most memorable moments, Silver Lake Ballroom will no longer be taking new event reservations. We are truly grateful for your trust, our community support, and the joy experienced under this roof."

The announcement signals a transition from a celebration hub to a versatile commercial opportunity. The Hunter Building, complete with leased offices, multi-room layouts, and prime I-20 visibility, is now officially on the market for sale or lease. While it is sad to lose such a premier wedding destination, the prospect of "new life and hustle and bustle" in downtown Shreveport is an exciting trade-off.

We are losing a ballroom, but the community is gaining a massive opportunity for growth. As the owners stated, they hope to see the space "continue to shine and serve our community in fresh, exciting ways." For now, we toast to twenty years of magic and look forward to whatever new energy fills this historic landmark.
