Early Morning Apartment Fire Extinguished in South Shreveport
On Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 3:38 AM, the Shreveport Fire Department (SFD) received a report of an apartment on fire with occupants trapped in the 9300 block of Mansfield Road at The Creole Apartments.
Engine 17 arrived on scene within six minutes and reported smoke and flames coming from a two-story building. Firefighters immediately began fire suppression efforts and a search for any potentially trapped occupants.
It took the efforts of thirty-three firefighters operating fourteen units to bring the fire under control at 4:08 AM. Two occupants who lived on the second level of the building escaped prior to the fire department’s arrival by jumping from their windows. One of those occupants was transported to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries.
In total, fire and smoke damage affected five living units and the property’s laundry room. Property management is working to relocate all displaced occupants. The full extent of the damage and official cause of the fire remains under investigation.
There were no reported injuries to firefighters. Every home should have a developed fire escape plan. This plan should be practiced at least twice a year. Consideration should be given to escape routes if you live on an upper level.
If you need assistance in developing a home fire escape plan, contact the Shreveport Fire Prevention Bureau at 318-673-6740 or visit www.shreveportfire.org.
