A small, local non-profit, Broadmoor UP has recently shut down its services due to what the charity founder says is "online harrassment."

Amy McDonald, founder of Broadmoor UP said she started the organization because she wanted to give back to the community.  What began as a donation of extra strawberries grew into a prolific charity that held local craft markets, rescued local animals, and fed seniors who are homebound.

McDonald told KEEL News on Thursday she had just told another interviewer:

"This is my purpose in life, I'm so happy, this is exactly what I was meant to do... I'm in my late 40's... this is... this is my thing... I've finally found... I..  uh... I can't... "

She couldn't finish her statement after getting emotional... McDonald continued:

That's gone... that's, that's taken from me...

But things began to change. She told KEEL News:

A couple of years ago one of my really nice friends had told me that there was a really ugly side to non-profit work, and I thought she was being silly.... and, uh.. she wasn't.

McDonald told KTBS the harrassment began when she began offering meal services to homebound seniors.  She said other meal programs reached out to her, even asking for a list of people she was serving to make sure their clients weren't "double-dipping."

But the harrassment continued after Broadmoor UP began offering animal rescue services.  McDonald claims another rescue service even sent Caddo Animal Services officers to her home.... twice.

She told KEEL News:

We walked around... I showed them all my animals, how I take care of things...  gave them a tour of my home, my living room, my bathroom, etc... it's embarrassing..."

When asked if they found anything wrong McDonald said...

No, of course they found nothing wrong.  I actually have a copy of the statement from Caddo... no, they absolutely found nothing wrong.

When asked what's next for her, she said:

Moving... my husband works in Marshall, so that's where we will go.

Of course there are always two sides to every story, but it's a shame that this side has such an unhappy ending.
