If there is one thing you can count on every April 1st, it’s that you shouldn’t trust a single soul, not even your favorite local bakers.

This year, the team at Lowder Baking Company didn’t just participate in the April Fools' tradition; they absolutely won the Shreveport internet with a prank that had us all ready to book a flight to the moon.

The local favorite took to Facebook to announce a "giant" leap for mankind: becoming an official vendor for NASA’s food program.

According to the post, the Lowder crew spent the last two years perfecting a "space-friendly" version of their legendary cinnamon rolls for the Artemis II mission. They even went as far as describing a dehydrated, shelf-stable pastry that somehow "still eats like a real cinnamon roll" once rehydrated.

The Art of the "Space-Friendly" Roll

If you have ever stood in line on a Saturday morning for a Lowder cinnamon roll, you know these things are absolute units. They are giant, gooey, and covered in that signature frosting. The idea of squeezing that much deliciousness into a vacuum-sealed tube for an astronaut’s breakfast is a hilarious visual.

The prank was executed with perfection, complete with a link to "watch" the Artemis flight and a shout-out to the crew. Of course, if you looked closely at the very end of the post, the #AprilFools hashtag gave the game away. But for a split second, many of us, myself included, were ready to believe that Shreveport’s best pastry was officially going interstellar.

Keeping the Spirit Light

In a world of serious news, seeing a local staple like Lowder’s lean into a fun, lighthearted joke is exactly what we need. They even joked that these "Astronaut cinnamon rolls" would be rolling out for camping trips and "doomsday prepping."

While we won't actually be seeing Lowder's pastries in orbit tomorrow at 5:24 PM, it’s a great reminder to keep your head on a swivel today. Whether it’s a fake space mission or a "new" weird flavor combo, don't believe everything you scroll past this April 1st.

The Bottom Line: Lowder’s might not be heading to the moon, but their cinnamon rolls are still out of this world right here in Shreveport. Stop by the shop (on solid ground) and grab a real one, no rehydration required.
