Expect Delays: Nighttime I-20 Work From Texas Line To I-220

Drivers planning to use I-20 during the nighttime hours this week should be prepared for some possible congestion and slight delays.

In an advisory from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, we learn that the $419,714 project to replace all the pavement markings (striping) and reflectorized markers on a section of I-20 in Caddo Parish is nearing completion, but in order to accomplish the mission, the agency has scheduled some intermittent nighttime lane closures this week.

According to DOTD, tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1st and Thursday, July 2, drivers should expect intermittent lane closures along I-20 in both directions, along with slow-moving operations from the Texas state line to I-220 in Shreveport.

These lane closures are restricted to nighttime only, from approximately 7:00 pm to 6:00 am each night, and are necessary to allow the contractor to perform punch list items that include the placement of raised reflectorized buttons and miscellaneous striping at ramps and interchanges.

As with all projects of this kind, work will be performed "Weather Permitting" so inclement weather could delay/extend or alter in other ways, the scheduled work day/hours.

Pavement markings are used to convey messages to roadway users. They indicate which part of the road to use, provide information about conditions ahead, and indicate where passing is allowed. Additionally, they provide continuous information to motorists related to roadway alignment, vehicle positioning, and other important driving-related tasks.
