Dangerously Hot Temperatures Bring Shreveport Extreme Heat Warning
The heat wave that's currently strangling the Shreveport/Bossier area has gone from bad to worse.

The Heat Advisories issued over the last several days have now been upgraded to an Extreme Heat Warning for most of the Arklatex!
In the announcement from the National Weather Service in Shreveport, we learn that for portions of southwest Arkansas, north central and northwest Louisiana, and northeast Texas, this Extreme Heat Warning is in effect until 7:00 pm today, Thursday, July 31.
The warning goes on to say that today we will experience dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 115.
The NWS goes on to describe the dangers involved with weather conditions this hot, stating that heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events.
They caution all those in the area to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
The good news is that according to The Weather Channel, we have about a 30% chance of rain today and 40% chance for thunderstorms this evening and those forecasters write that things should begin to cool somewhat with highs forecasted only into the lower 90's for the next several days.
Obviously we should all limit our time outdoors during this time and heed this warning, but for any wondering just how this heat wave stacks up in comparison to previous years, we don't have to look back far to see just how hot it can get around here.
According to NASA, the summer of 2023 was actually the hottest summer ever recorded on Earth.
The record high temperature ever recorded in Shreveport first took place on August 18, 1909, when the mercury topped out at 110 degrees, but then on August 25 and 26 of 2023, Shreveport tied that record high, not once, but twice.
Since we haven't even begun August, and we're already experiencing heat waves of this nature, it might have your curiosity peaked about the heat potential for our area.
