So, start with the question, what are the 20 worst head coaching hires in college football history. That what the experts at did when they started their list of inexplicable, disastrous and just plain foolish pigskin coaching bombs:

"Some decisions are doomed to fail from the outset. Such is the case with our list of the worst head-coaching hires in college football history. These are not the worst coaches in college football history, but they definitely were the wrong guy at the wrong time at the wrong school — and still leave us wondering, “What were they thinking?”

And while the list ranged from the well known (Lane Kiffin at Southern Cal) to the forgotten (Notre Dame's hiring of George O'Leary), one name made this notorious list, not once, but twice. And that name is current LSU head man Ed Orgeron!

Coach "O" first flirtation with coaching disaster came at Ole Miss, and the writers are none too kind:

"Enter Ed Orgeron, widely considered one of the most dynamic recruiters in college football history. But he had never been a head coach, and while Orgeron had some recruiting successes, his leadership of the program, game-planning and on-field coaching were a disaster as the Rebels won just three conference games in his three seasons."

But the piling on of "O" doesn't stop there! After being called the 13th worst hire in college coaching history for his work in Oxford, Orgeron makes it again at #9 for being hired to coach in Baton Rouge:

"After 16 seasons under the leadership of Nick Saban and Les Miles returned LSU to its place of national prominence inside college football, it’s fair to wonder if LSU may have given all of that back with the hiring of Orgeron. His top qualifications for the job seem to have been he was interested, he was available and he’s from Louisiana."

In reality, the criticism aimed at "O' is really just a shot at LSU Athletic Director Joe Alleva who "rushed to hire a man with no other offers and a career 3-21 SEC coaching record."
