Ida Town Clerk Arrested for Theft

Ida's town clerk has been arrested from stealing from the town's coffers. Sheriff Steve Prator says 71-year-old Haywood Williamson was also the town's only water department employee.

For those two jobs, Williamson was entitled to two checks at the first of every month. But on 12 occasions, he wrote himself duplicate paychecks.

Legitimate checks were posted to the town's general ledger, but the duplicates -- totaling about $5,500 -- weren't. Williamson's been booked into Caddo Correctional Center for felony theft.
