It's the time of year that we all try to dig a little deeper and give a little more to our fellow man, but exactly how much do our brothers and sisters in Shreveport need compared to the rest of the country? As it turns out, at least according to WalletHub.com, we need more assistance than most. I knew that we had some big time economically depressed areas and experience our fair share of food insecurity, but I had no idea it was this bad. After all, our school aged kids get breakfast and lunch provided in a lot of cases via their school, we have a plethora of subsidized housing, access to SNAP and LA Chip benefits, etc... So, how is it, that Shreveport is WalletHub's 19th most needy city.

While this information is from just one short year ago, I doubt with the pandemic, that there has been a lot of fluctuation other than increases when it comes to the key metrics used in the study like child poverty, homelessness, food insecurity, and uninsured rates.

I don't know about you, but even one child going to bed hungry is too many. I can't even fathom the thought of a minor living on the streets. We have GOT to do something about this and hold our elected officials accountable.
