How Dangerous to Louisiana is Joe Biden’s Next Border Move?
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry is joining with AG's from other states in suing the Biden Administration for rescinding the public health policy Title 42 during what is being called the worst border crisis in decades - a move that AG Landry says will worsen the unprecedented crisis at America's southern border.
The Centers for Disease and Control recently announced it will terminate the Title 42 policy that allows border officials to turn away migrants because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The policy has been in effect since March 2020 and is used by border officials to turn away thousands of migrants to try and keep communicable diseases out of the country.
"Now (the Biden administration) is trying to lift that policy and open the border without any restrictions whatsoever. It's going to be chaos at the border," Murrill says, "Even Democrats (in border states) are telling the President he shouldn't be doing this. We filed a lawsuit to...stop the President from opening the gates at the border."
Murrill explains how the Biden move will further overwhelm law enforcement agencies and non-governmental organizations. Meanwhile, the Department of Homeland Security estimates that the elimination of Title 42 could result in as many as 18,000 migrants per day showing up at the southern border, meaning that more than half-a-million illegal migrants could cross the border every month.
"(The administration) wants to let them in without any restrictions, then they start moving them to facilities in Louisiana, moving people from the border."
Louisiana, plus Arizona and Missouri are asking a federal judge in Louisiana's Western District to prevent the Biden Administration from lifting Title 42 until it conducts the required notice and comment period currently required by law.
