A horse had to be euthanized after falling out of a trailer on I-20 near Airline Drive, then being hit by two vehicles.

Bossier City police say it happened just after 3:30 this morning. Officers found the horse lying in the outside lane of traffic just east of Airline Drive. Neither driver that ran into the animal was hurt, but the horse suffered serious injuries. Both vehiches were seriously damaged.

A short time later, the horse's owner pulled up and told police she was headed east on I-20 in a pick-up truck towing a trailer with the horse inside. A passing motorist flagged her down just east of Bossier City and told her the door on her trailer was open.

She checked it and noticed the horse was no longer in the trailer, so she backtracked until she came upon the crash scene. She told police she had stopped earlier at a location west of Bossier to walk the horse and led it back into the trailer afterward.

A local veterinarian had to euthanize the horse. The roadway was shut down for about 2-and-a-half hours so workers could get everything cleared up. No citations were issued.
