Some bars in Louisiana can be open under Phase 3 of the Governor's restrictions. But some are opening even though they are not allowed to. Agents from the Alcohol, Tobacco Control Board have been responding to complaints across the state and recently more than 20 bars lost their ability to stay open until a hearing can be held to determine if they are violating the Governor's order.

Bars in Acadia, St. Landry, Plaquemines, Jefferson Davis, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, Rapides, Jefferson, Lafayette, St. Mary and Iberville Parishes are allowed to open because those parishes are below the threshold for COVID cases.

Ernest Legier is the new head of the ATC Board. He spoke with us about the rules under Phase 3 and the recent rash of violators cited across the state.

Some bars are allowed to be open if they also serve food. Under normal circumstances for a bar to qualify for a restaurant permit a business’s average monthly revenue from food and nonalcoholic beverages must exceed 50% of its total average monthly revenue from the sale of food, nonalcoholic beverages, and alcoholic beverages. But that portion of the law is not being enforced during the pandemic.
