Grover Cannon Wins a Battle in Court
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — A court hearing is underway in Baton Rouge to determine if the jury pool should be thrown out in the trial of the man accused of killing a Shreveport police officer.
WAFB-TV reports the Louisiana Supreme Court ordered that Wednesday's hearing be held after defense lawyers questioned the age of jurors who were summoned. Court administrators say a computer glitch prevented people younger than 26 from being summoned as potential jurors.
Grover Cannon's defense team is asking the presiding judge to toss the current jury pool and start the process over.
Cannon is accused of killing Officer Thomas LaValley, who died while responding to a call about a suspicious person.
Once jurors are selected, they will be transported to Caddo Parish and sequestered there for the trial.
