I spent a little bit of time shopping at local stores this weekend and found some great deals. But I found something I never thought I would find.

I'm upstairs at Dillards at Mall St. Vincent in the home goods area. I browse for a while and then find something I want to buy. It was a heavy item that I had to put down while I waited to check out. As I inched my way to the register, the clerk asked me if I would need someone to carry my item to my car. I said yes. She calls someone on the phone to ask for help with my package.

No one shows up by the time I have paid for the item and get bagged up.

The clerk says she will get someone to sub at her register and she'll carry it down for me. I say no that's ok, I can manage. But then a man who was standing off to the side with his wife said he would do it for me. A complete stranger. I told him that was ok, but he insisted.

So he grabs my bag and tells me he and the wife were waiting to finish up the gift registry for their daughter who just recently married. He walks with me to the escalator. We ride down and walk out to my car. He tells me they are from Carthage and want to get the final pieces their daughter needs. We talked about how expensive weddings are these days.

Just as we get to my car I told him about my Marine sons. You could see his eyes light up as he is putting my package in the trunk of my car. He looks at me and says please tell your sons "thank you for me."

I could tell immediately that he was really glad he helped my out and I'm sure he will tell his wife about my sons. He was proud of them, as I am every day.
