Women like to shop, but it's a different story when you talk to men.

A new poll shows 1/3 of Americans would rather have a root canal than go holiday shopping. Men, southerners and those over age 55 hate holiday shopping most of all. Shopping is most popular among women, young people and folks in the Northeast.

The new shopping game app GameIt did a survey of 1,011 Americans. Bryce Johnson of GameIt says "Even more people than we expected really can't stand holiday shopping."

Here's a breakdown of the study:

- Overall, one in three (32%) Americans positively agreed with this statement: I?d rather have a root canal than go holiday shopping.

- 36% men agreed, 28% of women agreed

- 32% of the U.S. population means more than 100 million Americans would rather be in the dental chair than in the aisles of stores this holiday season

- 36% of southerners would opt for root canal work over holiday shopping, compared to just 26% of north-easterners.

- 35% of those aged 55+ felt likewise, compared to 31% of younger age-groups.
