The new XFL has captured the imagination of football fans everywhere. The upstart league has seen consistent TV ratings and a rise in ticket sales. The league is taking off and thriving. Largely in part to the quality of players. And one player that really has broken out in the XFL is Martez Carter, running back for the LA Wildcats.

Now, if Carter's name sound familiar, that's for a VERY good reason. Carter is a Monroe native, a Gambling graduate and former running back for the Washington Redskins. Carter is a bit undersized which caused him to be overlooked by many. But Carter is getting a second look from those folks now.

Carter, who is known by his teammates as 'Mr. Excitement', earned the right to use that nickname last weekend. The former Grambling star scored three times for the Los Angeles Wildcats against the D.C. Defenders in his team's 39-9 win. Carter scored twice on the ground for 34 yards and once through the air for 41 yards. He added a successful two-point conversion attempt as well.

On top of that, his sideline interviews and backflip celebration captured the world's attention. Who knows what the future holds for Carter. Maybe he'll make his way back to the NFL, maybe he won't. But, right now, he's a star on the rise.
