Former Caddo Magnet Teacher Goes on Trial For Molestation
72-year-old Sharron Settlemire will have her day in court. The former physical education teacher and fencing coach faces the judge in a Caddo District Court on charges of sexually molesting a juvenile.
Settlemire reportedly taught at Caddo Magnet High School from 1980 until her retirement in 2002. In 2017, Shreveport Police sex crimes investigators arrested the former educator after they uncovered details that led to her being taken into custody. According to BRProud.com, authorities uncovered evidence that Settlemire had committed "inappropriate sexual acts on a 15-year-old juvenile beginning in September 2000." She surrendered herself to police when she was informed of the charges.
Settlemire was reportedly working at the school when the alleged crime took place. If convicted the former educator will be facing up to a $10,000 fine and up to 10 years in prison. If paroled, she would be required to be enrolled in a qualified sex offender program for a minimum of five years or until her sentence is complete. She will also have to register as a sex offender.
