Shreveport City Councilman James Flurry talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the latest news concerning the proposed garbage fee and whether the council could vote on Councilman James Green's $7 monthly proposal as soon as Tuesday (March 12).

Flurry tells KEEL listeners that until Mayor Adrian Perkins comes to the council with budget cuts, he'll continue to vote no. He adds that to this point there has been no overture from the mayor, but admits that may be because no firm monthly amount has been decided on by the council.

Flurry doubles down on his commitment to vote no, saying that any monies raised by a fee "is not going to be just a blank check...to the mayor."

"You better believe (I'm a no vote)," he adds, "George Bush said 'Read my lips. No new taxes.' Well, there's no way in the world I'll vote until we find out where we can streamline government."
