Five juveniles -- ranging in age from 12 to 16 -- are behind bars after what police say was a crime spree that began over the weekend. Shreveport police say that four of the young people physically assaulted a homeless man in the 3500 block of Jewella, causing moderate injuries. After the beating, they went to a business in the 3500 block of Greenwood Road, where they entered the building by breaking out a window and stealing various food items. Yesterday evening, at around 6:30, four juveniles were seen by employees entering the cattle barn area at the State Fairgroundds. They got in by slipping through the locked gates. Fairgrounds employees and Shreveport police caught them and brought them in for questioning. Three of the four were determined to also be responsible for the battery and burglary the night before. The fifth juvenile was at home during the last burglary. All five were ultimately booked into the Juvenile Detention Facility on charges that included unauthorized entry, simple burglary and second-degree battery.
