The newest tool for local law enforcement to teach firearms safety to children in our area is being unveiled today here in Shreveport.

Students at Werner Park Academy, at 2715 Corbitt Street in Shreveport, will be the first to see the Western District's new trailer in operation. The trailer is available for use as part of the Louisiana Law Enforcement Gun Safety Program, to teach firearms safety to kids at area schools.

According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, there was only one safety trailer available for use statewide -- until last month. Now there's one in each of the three federal judicial districts in Louisiana -- Western, Middle and Eastern.

The program is available for use by all law enforcement agencies in Louisiana. U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley, Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator, Shreveport Police Chief Willie Shaw and Caddo Schools Superintendent Lamar Goree will all be onhand for the unveiling. The program begins at 9 a.m.
