SHREVEPORT, LA - A man deported from the U.S. 6 times previously is now locked up in a federal prison after he was convicted by a jury in Shreveport. 37-year-old Jose Ismael Ramirez-Gonzalez was found guilty by a federal jury in a gun case.

Ramirez was arrested by Shreveport Police back in August of last year. He had gotten into a dispute with a woman over a parking spot in the 400 block of Commerce Street in downtown Shreveport. He pulled a gun and pointed it at the woman. Gonzalez appeared to be intoxicated and was very confrontational. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and having no driver’s license. He's also been convicted on a gun charge.

During the trial, evidence was presented showing Gonzalez is a citizen of Mexico and was illegally present in the United States after being deported on six prior occasions between 2008 and 2018.

Acting U.S. Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook says “the United States Attorney’s Office will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to make our communities safe for all of our citizens. This conviction should send a clear message that anyone in the United States illegally who chooses to violate our laws will be prosecuted to the maximum extent.”

Gonzalez faces a sentence of up to 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for the firearms conviction. He also faces up to two years in prison for illegally re-entering the United States.

The feds have been working with Shreveport police to get guns out of the hands of criminals.
