SHREVEPORT, LA - Shreveport leaders are working to find answers to the number of fatal car accidents in the city. So far this year, there have been 13 fatal crashes in Caddo Parish.

This compares to 16 in Orleans Parish which has a much greater population and many more cars on the roads. Calcasieu Parish in the Lake Charles area has also had 13 fatal crashes so far this year. The number of fatal crashes in East Baton Rouge Parish is 7 so far during 2025, significantly lower that the Shreveport metro area.

Top 10 Parishes for Fatal Crashes in 2025:

1. Orleans 16

2. Caddo 13

3. Calcasieu 13 (tied for 2nd)

4. Lafayette 10

5. East Baton Rouge 7

6. Jefferson 7 (tied for 5th)

7. St. Landry 6

8. Livingston 5

9. Ouachita 5 (tied for 8th)

10. Tangipahoa 5 (tied for 8th)

Bossier Parish is just out of the top 10 at number 11 with 4 fatal crashes so far this year.

An ultimate concern to me because people are getting killed so often in automobile crashes. The Shreveport Police department leads the state in DWI arrests and we are going to continue that effort.

What Are the Top Causes of Fatal Crashes?

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission says distracted driving is one of the top causes of fatal traffic accidents. But drivers under the influence of alcohol and poor weather conditions are also major factors in several of these crashes, as well. Another problem is speeding which contributes to the severity of the accidents.
