Several major chains including Walmart, Target, Best Buy, PetSmart, and the Home Depot, to name a few, have announced they will be closing on Thanksgiving Day, and I think that is a wonderful idea.  (But it is probably going to add a little more fuel to the Black Friday fire.)

So before you map out your Black Friday shopping, you might want to save a little for Small Business Saturday.  And there will be a lot going on in downtown Shreveport to make your planning worth while, including shopping, specials, food, and fireworks.

Small Business Saturday, the Saturday after Thanksgiving, is a day focused on LOCAL small, 'mom & pop" businesses that are the backbone of the local economy, and what makes Shreveport such a special and unique place.  According to the Downtown Development Authority:

99% of all businesses in the US are 'small businesses. (Those with fewer than 500 employees)
61.7 million people in the US are employed by small businesses.
Shreveport's small businesses are responsible for a large portion of the city's tax base.

Several businesses in downtown Shreveport will be open this Saturday with special sales or events. Including:
