UPDATE: Elderly Man’s Death Being Investigated as Homicide

[UPDATE] Here's the latest information in the case, courtesy of the Shreveport Police Department:

Just before 12:30 p.m. on June 19, 2016, Shreveport Police patrol officers were dispatched to a home located in the 2400 block of Parham Drive relative to a deceased person. As officers arrived at the residence, contact was made with family members of 81 year old William Hines, who was located deceased inside his residence.

Preliminary findings at the scene did not immediately suggest the manner in which Hines died; however, information gathered from officials with the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office has led to them to determine Hines' death a homicide.

Investigators with the Shreveport Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit have been investigating the matter since learning of the death, and are continuing their efforts to gather information and evidence into what led to, and the identity of the person or persons responsible for the crime.

It is believed Hines suffered what appeared to be a stab wound to the upper body. While a number of details related to the death remain unclear at the early stage of the investigation, authorities are hopeful their continued efforts and information from the community will lead to the arrest of those responsible.

[ORIGINAL STORY]  Shreveport police are investigating the weekend death of an elderly man at a home in the 2400 block of Parham.

Corporal Marcus Hines told KEEL News detectives continue to gather evidence in the case. Meantime, the Caddo Coroner's Office has performed an autopsy, and ruled the death of 81-year-old William Hines a homicide.

Sources close to KEEL say Hines was a Korean war-era veteran, and was stabbed to death during a home invasion, but that hasn't been officially confirmed yet.

According to a story reported by KSLA-TV, Hines' neighbors are concerned because they don't know exactly how he died, and that's spreading fear throughout the usually-quiet Parham Park Estates community.

A family member found Hines' body inside his home just after 1 p.m. Sunday and called police.
