Shreveport City Council members Willie Bradford, Grayson Boucher and LeVette Fuller talk with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the recent proposal by Mayor Adrian Perkins to introduce an $18 monthly fee for sanitation department improvement, including a pay raise for workers and improved maintenance and pickup. The Mayor says in a Time op-ed that the fee would add an additional $14 million annually to city coffers.

!01.7 / 710 KEEL also received a text from Councilman John Nickelson regarding the issue:

"We have to pay our sanitation workers a fair wage, increase our operating reserve and address the police pay disparity with Bossier. If the fee Mayor Perkins proposedis the only way to accomplish those goals in the short term, I will support it. I am open to the possibility of a sunset provision limiting the fee's duration to some fixed time period - perhaps two years. That would give the council the opportunity to explore other ways of ensuring we collect sufficient revenue to meet the city's needs."
