Closing Arguments Set in Coleman’s Murder Re-Trial
A Caddo Parish jury returns to the courtroom this morning at 9 o'clock to hear closing arguments in the penalty phase of Robert Coleman's murder re-trial. The jury, late Friday evening, again convicted Coleman of first-degree murder for the killing of retired minister Julian Brandon and the wounding that eventually led to her death of his wife, Alice, during a home invasion. The State Supreme Court ordered a re-trial of his case after determining that Coleman's civil rights were violated because a potential black juror was excluded from hearing the original case. Testimony in the penalty phase of his re-trial was presented all day Saturday and all day yesterday. The District Attorney's Office is, again, seeking the death penalty.
